Roof size and complexity. A 1,500 sq ft single-plane roof is a one-day job. A 3,500 sq ft roof with dormers, valleys, multiple penetrations, and a steep 10/12 pitch can take 3 days. Every cut, every flashing detail, every valley weave adds time.
Material type. Asphalt shingles go down fastest — an experienced 5-man crew lays 25-30 squares per day. Standing seam metal takes 2-3x longer because each panel is measured, cut, and mechanically fastened. Tile is the slowest — each piece is individually set and secured.
Tear-off condition. One layer of old shingles strips in a few hours. Two layers doubles the tear-off time. If we hit rotted decking underneath, that’s an additional half-day minimum for replacement before new material goes on.
Weather. Houston weather is unpredictable. We won’t install in rain — moisture under new shingles voids warranties and traps water against the deck. A morning thunderstorm can push a 1-day job to 2 days. We monitor forecasts closely and communicate any delays same-day.

Our Typical Process
Day 1 morning: Crew arrives at 7 AM. Materials are already staged. Tear-off begins immediately. Old shingles go into a dumpster we place the day before.
Day 1 midday: Deck inspection and any OSB replacement. Underlayment, ice-and-water shield in valleys, drip edge installation.
Day 1 afternoon: Shingle installation, ridge cap, pipe boot flashing, and cleanup. Most jobs are dried in and watertight by end of day 1 even if detail work continues day 2.
Day 2 (if needed): Ridge vent completion, final flashing details, gutter re-attachment, full cleanup and magnetic nail sweep of the yard and driveway.
What About Living in the House During Replacement?
You can stay home during the work. It’s loud — hammering and compressor noise start at 7 AM and run all day. Most of our Houston customers go to work as usual and come home to a new roof. If you work from home, noise-canceling headphones are your friend.
We protect your landscaping with tarps, keep the driveway clear for your vehicles, and do a thorough cleanup including a magnet sweep for stray nails at the end of every day.
